Parent Education

Childbirth Education classes at Beverly Hospital The following childbirth education classes are offered at Beverly Hospital. To register for the following childbirth education classes, it is requested that expectant mothers call the Beverly Hospital Parent Education office at 978-927-9103 by their fourth month of pregnancy to check for class availability, dates, times and locations of classes. All classes are on the Beverly Hospital campus and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required (alternative payment options are available). Payments may be made by MasterCard, Visa or check. Prenatal Preparation
Prenatal Preparation Packages The six-session series, which offers a weekly, evening class for six weeks, is available for $150 and includes a tour of “Beautiful Beginnings” and a prenatal breast-feeding class. The weekend series, which is a two-day class, includes a tour and a breast-feeding class on a weekday evening and is available for a cost of $175.

  • Hypnobirthing Classes Available as a four-week session on Tuesday evenings. Classes include a tour of “Beautiful Beginnings” and a prenatal breastfeeding class on a separate evening.
  • Refresher Class This class takes place on one evening for three hours and is for parents who have previously attended a child birth education class. The class reviews pain relief, breathing, relaxation, and sibling issues. This class is available for $30.
  • Childbirth Class for Young Women This seven-session series geared toward young women features one class each week. The cost of this series is $15.
  • Your Healthy Pregnancy Class for Young Women This is a one-time class, available free of charge.
  • Prenatal Classes for Young Women Prenatal classes for Young Women are held in conjunction with Connecting Young Moms of Beverly Hospital and Healthy Families. Classes are held free of charge in the Babson Women's Health Conference Room at Addison Gilbert Hospital, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester (Washington Street entrance). Classes are held on a four-week series on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. For further information about this class or the Connecting Young Moms program, please call Parent Education Office at Beverly Hospital 978-927-9103 or the Connecting Young Moms program at 978-922-3000, ext. 2720.
  • Sibling Classes This class is designed to educate siblings about what to expect with their new brother or sister. It is available as a one hour class on week days for ages 4 through 7 and on Saturday morning for ages 3 through 5. The cost is $10 per child and classes are held monthly.

Postpartum Classes

  • The B.R.E.A.S.T. Connection A chance to meet with a lactation consultant, weigh your baby and get extra support you need after going home. The classes are held every Tuesday between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. in the Women’s Health Meeting Room at Beverly Hospital. No pre-registration is required and the cost is $10.
  • Mothertalk Group Classes are held weekly from 10 a.m. to noon with Tuesday classes for moms with a baby age infant to 4 months old and Thursday classes for moms with a baby 4 months or older. No registration is required and the cost is $5 per session.
  • Boot Camp for New Dads This innovative program to prepare first-time fathers for the joys and challenges of parenthood is offered as one monthly class, held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost for this program is $20.

Family and Friends

  • Baby and Child Saver class at Beverly Hospital The baby and child saver class is a two-evening, six-hour program that will enable parents, expecting parents and caregivers to recognize and cope with emergency situations involving babies and small children. The class reviews accident prevention, hands-on learning and techniques for CPR and response to obstructed airways as outlined in the American Heart Association guidelines.   • Postpartum Adjustment Support Group at Beverly Hospital Postpartum Adjustment support group at Beverly Hospital is available to all mothers, especially those experiencing postpartum stress. For details about this program, please contact CARNIE HANSEN, LICSW, 978-922-3000, extension 2710.
  • North Shore Postpartum Help The North Shore Postpartum Depression Task Force is available to woman experiencing postpartum stress. They are available for help, hope and connection. Visit their website at NorthShorePostpartumHelp.Org. Those needing to talk to someone immediately may call the Parental Stress Hotline at: 1-800-632-8188. It is the goal of this Task Force to bring together the practitioners, organizations, research, and best practices that North Shore families need for a healthy postpartum experience. The initial scope of this Task Force is the North Shore United Way community, including the following towns: Beverly, Manchester, Hamilton, Wenham, Ipswich, Essex, Gloucester, and Rockport.

Beverly

  • Stroke Survivor Support Group at Beverly Hospital The Beverly Hospital Stroke Program is pleased to announce a monthly Stroke Survivor Support Group to be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. - 12 Noon at Beverly Hospital. The free program will be facilitated by a variety of professionals affiliated with the stroke program at Beverly Hospital. The first meeting is scheduled for September 7, 2011. The support group will be held in the large conference room in the Women's Health and Medical Arts Building located on the campus of Beverly Hospital, 83 Herrick Street, Beverly, MA. Guests should enter through the main entrance driveway. The Women's Health and Medical Arts Building is located at the end of this drive. Light refreshments will be available.   • North Shore Neuropathy Support Group North Shore Neuropathy Support group meets at Beverly Hospital, 85 Herrick Street, Beverly, MA, in the Lecture Hall, located on the first floor of the Beverly Hospital. The support group welcomes those affected by neuropathy, their family members, friends and care-givers.   • Connecting Young Moms Education/Support Group This discussion and support group, provided by Beverly Hospital, provides support and education for teen and young mothers. This group, held at the Women’s Health and Medical Arts Building located on the Beverly Hospital campus, meets Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and is available free of charge. Babies are welcome at the support group meetings and pre-registration is required by calling the Social Work Department at 978-922-3000, ext. 2720. Following the Healthy Pregnancy Workshop, a childbirth series is offered to assist young woman and their support people to prepare for birth. The class meets one evening a week for seven weeks. There is no fee but pre-registration is required by calling 978-922-3000, ext. 2720.
  • Infant Loss Support Parents who have lost an infant at anytime during pregnancy through early infancy are invited to attend the loss support group at Beverly Hospital, 85 Herrick Street, Beverly. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Kauders Conference Room. Pre-registration is not required and there is no fee. Gloucester

  • Loss of a Child Support Group Loss of a Child Support Group is available to parents who have experienced the loss of a child at any age. The group meets at Addison Gilbert Hospital, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester, on the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Longan Room (Washington Street entrance). There is no fee, pre-registration is requested by calling the facilitator Judi Dagle-Ernest at 978-879-9718. Those attending are welcome to bring a photo of the child they are remembering.
  • Prenatal Classes for Young Women Prenatal classes for Young Women are held in conjunction with Connecting Young Moms of Beverly Hospital and Healthy Families.   • Breast Cancer Support Group at Addison Gilbert Hospital The breast cancer support group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Longan Room, located inside the Washington Street entrance of the Addison Gilbert Hospital, located at 298 Washington Street in Gloucester. There is no fee and pre-registration is not required. This group does not meet in July or August.
  • General Cancer Support Group Addison Gilbert Hospital The Cape Ann cancer support group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Longan Room, located inside the Washington Street entrance of Addison Gilbert Hospital, located at 298 Washington Street in Gloucester. There is no fee and pre-registration is not required. This group does not meet in August.
  • Gloucester Stroke Club meeting The Gloucester Stroke Club that meets monthly at Addison Gilbert Hospital. The group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the Women’s Health.   • Widowed Persons’ Support Group The Widowed Persons’ Support Group meeting held at Addison Gilbert Hospital in the Longan Room from 3-5 PM.   • Learn to Cope "There is hope, you are not alone" Learn to Cope Gloucester/Cape Ann Learn to Cope Gloucester/Cape Ann is a support group for families struggling with the addiction of a loved one. The support group is free, it's anonymous and it's supportive. The group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Gloucester Family Health Center, 302 Washington Street, next door to Addison Gilbert Hospital. From the main entrance, guest should go downstairs. If you arrive after 7 p.m., please knock on the door.   • C.A.R.E. WORKSHOPS C.A.R.E. Workshops are provided to active injection drug users at risk for hepatitis, overdose, HIV and other substance related health issues. This program is held every Wednesday from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Healy Room at Addison Gilbert Hospital, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester (enter at Washington Street entrance). On-going Screenings and Clinics

  • Cape Ann Blood Pressure Clinic (Clinics are not held on holidays) A free Blood Pressure Clinic is held each Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Women’s Health. All are welcome to attend and pre-registration is not required. Diabetes Screening (Clinics are not held on holidays) A free Diabetes screening is held on the first Monday of each month at Addison Gilbert Hospital Women’s Health. Appointments are not necessary. Those attending may enter the hospital through the Washington Street entrance.
  • Free Reiki Clinic at Addison Gilbert Hospital A free Reiki clinic is held twice a month at Addison Gilbert Hospital, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester. The clinic is facilitated by Reiki Master Practitioner Stacy Harrington, RN, OCN. To schedule an appointment for an upcoming clinic, please call 978-283-4000, ext. 559. Reiki is an ancient relaxation method that may reduce stress and assist in the restoration of mind/body balance. Reiki is a non- invasive therapy and may help build immune function, decrease the effects of chemotherapy, radiation and help with wound healing. Reiki is done fully clothed. It does not take the place of traditional medicine, but it compliments it.

In addition to containing your name, primary care physician, allergies, pharmacy name and other pertinent medical data in one place, the card fits conveniently into a wallet or purse for easy access in an emergency.   • Speakers Bureau The Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals’ Speakers Bureau is a free service designed to bring timely information on a variety of health-related topics. Speakers include physicians, registered nurses, dietitians, physical therapists, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who will provide information about healthy living and illness prevention. If your organization or group is interested in providing guest speakers for upcoming events, please call Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals’ Community Relations Department at 978-236-1650.
  • Addison Gilbert Hospital and Beverly Hospital Seeking Gift Shop Volunteers Addison Gilbert Hospital and Beverly Hospital are seeking applicants to join its team of enthusiastic and professional volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the hospital’s gift shop for all shifts, including days, evenings and weekends. The Volunteer Department provides training for the position, free parking, meal vouchers for the hospital’s café and gift shop discount.   • Pre-K Full and Half Day Openings at Child Development Center at Beverly Hospital The Child Development Center, located on the campus of Beverly Hospital at 85 Herrick Street, Beverly, provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. Specially trained teachers plan learning activities appropriate to children’s age and development such as block building, painting, reading stories, dress up and active outdoor play. The program invites and encourages children to think creatively, to use all of their senses, and become involved in every facet of learning. Nutritious meals and snacks are also provided. The Beverly Hospital Child Development Center is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
